Self-Honesty

By Eloise Anagnost, TIWP Student

I will not be dishonest with myself,
because self-dishonestly is the worst form of
betrayal,
graver than
dishonesty to another.
It is simple
to focus on the idea of
not lying to someone else.
But when it comes to
yourself,
it is a challenge
quite difficult to
surmount.
I will not be dishonest with myself,
when I believe one thing,
but convince myself of another
to appease the other.
Changing your values,
to fit with those around you,
is only
dissembling who you have built yourself to be,
creating a new you,
comprised only of
lies.
I will not be dishonest with myself,
Because a lack of honesty
only creates a
sheltered,
false society,
dismantling the
Uniqueness
and Creativity
that is humanity.
I will not be dishonest with myself
because frankly,
manufacturing a whole new me,
is far more exhausting,
than any conflict
that may stem from my honesty.
