Some people,
for some odd reason,
like numbers such as
two.
Repulsive.
I would rather have
seventeen.
This may seem
strange
for
seventeen
to be picked
as best
but it is unlikely
to be
guessed.
Therefore,
it is scientifically
the best.
Odd?
Yes.
But
prime,
not needing
to share
with siblings
like five, ten,
and fifteen.
Its edges
are sharp
and
harsh,
not soft
like six
or eight.
No sir.
Seventeen
is no pushover.
One number
people seem to like
is five.
I
think
that they
just
want
an easy number
to multiply.
In the wasteland
of math
there was a battle
between
twenty
and
three.
Seventeen emerged victorious.
And although
this may be
but a short mirage
and although
I could wake up tomorrow
and like
thirteen,
today,
I write and ode for thee,
seventeen.
